Papa Idu

Ikwukwu Uwokwu
This image shows the heartbreaking reality of how Papa Idu was living before help reached him. Alone in a bare and crumbling space, with almost nothing around him, he had been left to survive in conditions no human being should have to endure.
Papa Idu is an elderly, physically disabled man from Ikwukwu Uwokwu who was completely abandoned and left without family or support. He has no wife, no children, and no known relatives to care for him. For years, he survived by begging from house to house, depending on the mercy of others just to make it through each day.
As his health grew worse, Papa Idu eventually became too weak and immobile to continue moving around in search of help. Trapped in an abandoned building and unable to care for himself, he was left helpless, without proper food, comfort, or medical attention. By the time he was found, he was severely weak, malnourished, and close to death.
His story is a painful reminder that some of the most vulnerable people in our communities are living in silence, unseen and forgotten. The condition of his shelter and the state he was found in show just how urgent the need is — not only for food and emergency support, but also for long-term care and better living conditions.
With further support, there is still much that can be done to improve Papa Idu’s quality of life. He needs continued care, regular food support, basic household items, safer and more dignified living conditions, and improvements to his space. Simple but important changes such as a proper bed, a cleaner and safer floor, better shelter support, and daily care essentials could make an enormous difference in his comfort, health, and dignity.
No elderly man should have to spend his final years in abandonment and suffering. Donations are warmly welcomed to help provide Papa Idu with the care, support, and improved living conditions he urgently needs. Your help can bring comfort, dignity, and hope to someone who has been left with almost nothing.
